## Abstract

The rapid acceleration and adoption of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and enterprise automation are restructuring global labor markets, presenting acute structural implications for developing service-exporting economies. In the Philippines, where economic stability and gross domestic product (GDP) growth rely heavily on the Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) sector, telecommunications, retail, and administrative services, artificial intelligence poses a complex economic paradox. Unlike previous waves of industrial mechanization that displaced routine physical labor, modern generative systems generate language, synthesize code, conduct cognitive back-office operations, and automate complex customer interaction workflows. This research investigates the multi-dimensional impact of artificial intelligence on the Philippine labor market, with a focus on workforce vulnerability, skill polarization, wage dynamics, and systemic displacement across key industries. Through a critical integrative review of empirical macroeconomic indicators, labor market studies, and structural policy frameworks, this study examines the dual reality of AI as both an engine for economic modernization (intelligence arbitrage) and a catalyst for structural unemployment. The paper argues that AI does not simply eliminate jobs wholesale; rather, it fundamentally shifts the division of labor from human execution of repetitive cognitive tasks to human supervision of automated workflows. While entry-level and voice-based outsourcing operations face heightened vulnerability, high-value, AI-augmented services (e.g., healthcare administration, cybersecurity, data engineering, and complex financial analysis) present opportunities for value creation. Finally, the study analyzes the structural bottlenecks in the country’s digital infrastructure, public education, and upskilling policy frameworks. It proposes actionable labor governance strategies and human-capital intervent
