## Key takeaway [AI-written](https://aifaultline.com/about/)

A qualitative review of AI's potential effects on India's economy and jobs under the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, drawing on academic, government and institutional reports. It argues AI is more likely to change the type of employment than replace jobs if reskilling follows, and names human capital, digital infrastructure, responsible governance and social protection as policy priorities.

## Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a nascent technology that could become a general-purpose technology and can have significant impacts on economic development, productivity growth, labour markets and good governance. The study will delve into the potential impact of Artificial Intelligence on the economy and job landscape of India as part of the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. The study uses qualitative review-based research methodology that is based on analyzing evidence from the academic literature, government documents, as well as reports produced by national and international institutions. AI has the potential to augment productivity, innovate solutions, modernize industries, contribute to digital governance and create job opportunities, as revealed by this study. At the same time, the implementation of AI can be challenging due to the changes in labor markets, lack of skills, digital divide, fragility of the informal sector, data privacy and security concerns, algorithmic biases, and institutional preparedness. In this study, it is argued that AI will not necessarily take the place of jobs, but rather change the employment type if suitable reskilling measures are taken. It identifies the following policy priorities – human capital, digital infrastructure, responsible AI governance, research and innovation, and social protection.
